Cleaner Air in California is too expensive for GOP

Today I heard Republicans talking out of their asses, complaining that the Container Fee Bill (SB 927) on the Floor wouldn't clean "one molecule" of air.

Let me tell you something. The two ports of LA/LB account for 40% of the goods that are shipped to this country. In ten years the number of containers coming to the port will triple. We can't wait for the Southern California Area to resemble the inside of a coal mine before we start assessing proper fees to clean up the machinery/trucks/trains/ships that are operating there.

Listen now and listen good. If you Chamber loving Republicans want to kill legislation like this, you do so at your peril. The voting base in the Inland Empire/Central Valley already feels the same effects that the Harbor/L.A. Area does. When voters in your districts can't take breething the crappy air there, they will blame YOU for it.

You should follow the Guv's example and work to clean the air, not foul it up.

Global Warming And Some More Hot Air

While the earth heated up in July, the Guv met with Prime Minister Tony Blair and signed an agreement (or was it a treaty?) to reduce greenhouse gasses.

I'm all for the Guv working hard to combat Global Warming. In addition to reducing everyone's electric bills and make life more pleasant around the world, we'd have a better place to leave to our children and grandchildren.

The question is- will the Guv work to achieve the bold change he seeks in this election year? Will his fellow Republicans let him have his way? Or will the iron fist of the Third House stop plans like the one signed in Long Beach in its tracks?

We'll see if this deal is just more hot air or if the Guv is willing to push hard to make it happen.

Westly's in for another $5 Mil

Today the L.A. Times reported that Steve Westly is dumping another $5 million of his own money into the race. This will put his self-funding level to 27.5 million. That's more than Michael Huffington did for the Senate race against Dianne Feinstein all those years ago.

I hear Steve's wife is getting a little nervous about Steve spending his kids' inheritance.

The Dem Convention

I was at the Democratic Party Convention this weekend and saw our next Governor on stage.

Any thoughts about the Angelides endorsement? I say it gets him back in the race. What do you think?
